Cook Park (New map!)

Cook Park, Tigard, Oregon

April 22, 2001

Orienteering has a new venue in Washington County. Tigard's Cook Park, on the banks of the Tualatin River, is an intimate park with opportunities for beginners and novices to practice the sport of cross-country travel by map-and-compass.

The terrain is mostly flat, with trails and open areas. There is not enough room for advanced orienteering courses, but experienced orienteers can practice their sprinting skills on one or more of the beginner courses that will be offered. Competitors with families can take advantage of the playground and picnic areas for a spring outing in the park.

To get there from I-5, take exit 290 and go a short distance west on Boones Ferry Road. Turn right (N) on 72nd Avenue. At the next signal, turn left on Durham Road, and follow it west about 1 mile. Just past Tigard High School, turn left (S) on 92nd Ave., and follow it down to the park.
