The Columbia River Orienteering Club's NOD meet was held at Powell Butte Nature Park, a 600-acre natural area in urban Portland. One hundred twenty people took part in five courses: White, Yellow, Orange, Pink (white-level controls and red-level length), and a Sampler course. The Sampler included legs from white to orange, with lots of choices. No one got lost! Almost everyone attended one of several beginner clinics. An intermediate clinic attracted 8-10 people, as did our special clinic for adventure racers. The adventure racers appreciated the opportunity to learn navigation skills, and demonstrated their quick learning by fast results on the Orange course. Girl scouts, grandmothers, adventure racers, and 20-year veteran orienteers enjoyed the meet at Powell Butte. The red-shirted girl who beamed as she turned in her control card said it all: "Whew! That was fun!" Several CROC members get the credit for putting on this meet: John Bartholomew, Donna Brown, Glen Cafferty, Virginia Church, Scott Drumm, Brian Hauck, Phillip Kollas, Meghan Moran, Alan McNeely, Mike Poulsen, Jerry Rhodes, and Brad Weyers. It just about takes a village to put on a CROC meet.
