Results Cook Park

Our second event at Cook Park in Tigard took place without April showers, although people on the longer courses had a chance to get their feet muddy in spots. The area is suitable for beginner courses, with some pleasant trails along the Tualatin River. A number of groups decided to try a second course, which is one measure of success for getting newcomers exposed to the sport.

The advanced orienteers ended up on the Orange course, with Jeff Watson, the ORCAn bearing gifts (our new CROC uniforms) taking first over Mal Harding. Close on their heels, though, was a very swift high school junior, Scott Mahr. For an additional workout, he also zipped through the Yellow course. Once Scott gets a little more navigation practice, I don't see how the rest of us can keep up.

Another bright spot was the return of Philip Kollas, who is home on a few weeks R&R. Philip was called up by the Air Force last December for combat search and rescue work oversees. We understand that he is stationed at an "un-disclosed forward location" with lots of sand.

Once again, this meet could not have happened without the help of many volunteers.
