Terradan's Training O-Page

If you haven't heard of the sport of Orienteering before, I suggest you first check out:
"What is Orienteering anyway?" and make sure to follow the links there to the:
"Sample O Map with Course" (& back of course ;-)

If you understand the "O" basics already and wish to improve your ability to find your way quickly and efficiently, start with the "Quick Tips" link below and then spend some time with: "Orienteering: 'O'-1-2-3" This marvelous monograph (written by John Britton of Manchester, United Kingdom during his 2-year stint in Portland, Oregon) leads from the Beginner-level through Intermediate and Advanced-level land navigation skills.

To apply these ideas and acquire these skills, get out on some ground with a contour map of that area in your hand, orient the map with a compass and major landmarks and work on connecting the land and the map in your mind. To gain more such valuable "dirt time" and test your navigation skill, attend a local Orienteering meet.
