Member Training: Control Descriptions in the Field
Sunday, October 12, 2025 10:00 a.m. - noon
Westmoreland Park in Southeast Portland
For CROC members only
Becoming comfortable with the pictographic language of control descriptions is one of the skills that can help you zero in on orienteering course controls. To get more familiar with the control description sheet, you can look up the meaning of all the symbols, but seeing the symbols come to life in the field is even better.
To help you internalize control description symbols, this training has been set up as a series of puzzles to solve, using Westmoreland Park as the game board. Maps and puzzle sheets will be provided.
Dress for whatever weather is expected on Sunday, October 12, 10:00 a.m. until noon. Like Crossword, Wordle, Flagle, and your other favorite game, expect this training to be more cerebral than aerobic.
This training is for CROC members only; there is no cost. Register here by October 10 and we’ll send you the exact starting point. For questions and suggestions contact trainer Virginia Church or training coordinator Anndy Wiselogle.
