Photo-Orienteering: Re-Locating

During this period of social distancing, the CROC Training Committee is offering some practice material that you can do from your comfortable armchair. You get a series of photographs that you have to match to locations on the map.

The first Photo-O is of Sellwood Park - no need to go there in person.

Instructions:

You have fourteen photos taken at Sellwood Park, each with a half-size control bag. Your task is to determine where on the map the control is, based on what you see in the photo. Photos are lettered A through N.

The harder version of the exercise is to match the photos to the blank map of the park. Think: You were plopped down in the park by aliens and have to figure where you are. Or, you were running a course there when you hit your head and cannot for the life of you remember where you were. It’s a re-location exercise, except you can’t run around.

You can print the map and write on it, or use the pdf drawing tools to make circles and letters to identify the spots.

The less hard version is to take the circles map, which has the control locations marked, and figure which photo goes to which circle. You can print the map and write the letters, or use the pdf drawing tools to mark the map.

The answer sheet is here, but of course you won’t open it until you’ve spent an hour on the exercise.

As with every training I create, I welcome feedback. What worked well for you? What would make it better? How long did it take?

Thanks! Anndy
